If you look at what’s in most high-quality skin care products, you’ll likely find one of the key ingredients to be Hyaluronic Acid. From cleansers to moisturizers or face masks to lip masks, you’ll find they have this one substance in common. The beauty and skin industry loves this ingredient for its ability to retain moisture. We wanted to delve into the science behind this magical ingredient and explain why it is in all the products in the Uncovered Skin Care regimen.

What is Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar found naturally in our skin that holds water and helps keep it hydrated and healthy. Beyond moisturizing the skin, it reduces the appearance of wrinkles, replenishes cell moisture, and speeds wound healing. It’s also safe for all skin types.

In fact, Hyaluronic Acid is capable of binding more than one thousand times its weight in water. You can find it in different areas of the body, including the skin, eyes, and joints. But, as we age, we don’t produce as much, which means our skin loses that young luster that we all crave.

Chemist Kendra Cutcher adds that Hyaluronic Acid is so important because it heightens the skin’s ability to retain moisture.

“Hyaluronic acid is the most powerful moisturizer that is available for cosmetic and personal care items. To enhance firming and smoothing the skin or soothing and protecting the skin, Hyaluronic Acid provides smoothness and softness to the skin through the ability to hold an incredible amount of weight of water,” says Cutcher.

How does it work in skin care?

As Cutcher pointed out, Hyaluronic Acid amplifies the skin’s ability to retain moisture. From the moment you use the Refreshing Cleanser until you finish the simple, 4-step routine with the Advanced Moisturizer, Hyaluronic Acid draws in moisture. Fine lines and wrinkles can diminish in appearance when your skin is plump from full hydration. Another plus, Hyaluronic Acid works on any skin type and acts as a shield. That’s why it’s an ingredient in both Uncovered Skin Care lines, Firm & Smooth and Soothe & Protect. It’s also one reason experts refer to this ingredient as a hero.

“With it being in each step, it’s depositing when you’re washing your face, when you’re toning your face, moisturizing and with the eye serum. So, it’s really going to give you all the moisture and lock it in,” Cutcher adds.

What does it do within each product?

Let’s go through each step of the Uncovered Skin Care routine, so you can know how Hyaluronic Acid is working to give you the firm, plump skin you want.

Step #1: Refreshing Cleanser

When you wet your face and massage the Refreshing Cleanser into your skin, the Hyaluronic Acid helps moisturize and firm.

Step #2 Balancing Toner

This product clears away dirt, but also prepares your skin for the next step. When the Balancing toner absorbs into your skin, it helps other products penetrate deeper into skin.

Step #3 Hydrating Eye Serum

Peptides team up with Hyaluronic Acid in this step to diminish the appearance of fine lines by replacing lost moisture.

Step #4 Advanced Moisturizer

Hyaluronic Acid is once again in an important blend of ingredients, like peptides and botanical extracts, to give your skin hydration and fight signs of aging.

Is it a surprise that we love Hyaluronic Acid?

Of course, we do! And we only went through the benefits of it as a skin care ingredient. Hyaluronic Acid is also known to speed up wound healing time, relieve joint pain, soothe acid reflux, relieve dry eye and discomfort, preserve bone strength, and prevent bladder pain.
