One in four Americans haven’t had sex in a year!

We’re so in shock, we’ll write it again.

26 percent of Americans (18 and up) did not have sex – not once – during 2021.

The General Social Survey conducts the personal interview study each year to explore trends in opinions, attitudes, and behaviors. It just released the numbers for 2021 and it’s not looking good. Let’s go deeper. More than 50 percent of Americans are, at most, having sex once a month. That’s the first time that has happened in at least the past 30 years. Only about five percent of adults have sex more than three times a week.

This isn’t a fluke. The amount of sex Americans have has been going down since 2010. In fact, the number of adults who says they haven’t had sex in a year has increased by almost 10 percent since 1989.

America is also at a 30-year low when it comes to living without a spouse or partner. Only 62 percent of Americans between the ages of 25 and 54 currently live with a partner or are married, according to the Pew Research Center. That number has gone down by nine percent since 1990.

While we don’t know the individual reasons so many people aren’t having sex, Pure Romance is determined to be a part of the solution. We are a leader in women’s wellness and wellness includes sex care. Your sex care is of the utmost importance. Orgasms have many health benefits and you can achieve one (or many) with or without a partner. If you’re experiencing low libido. You’re not alone. There are many things that can impact sexual interest and we have a blog with solutions to heat up your sex life. Here are a few ways more to increase time in the bedroom and you won’t be sleeping.

Communicate

Want to have sex? Tell your partner.

Not interested in sex? Tell your partner.

Want to try something new? Tell your partner.

You’ll never know if you don’t ask. A wild night of passion could be just one question away. What’s keeping you from asking?

It’s all in the kiss

Have you ever had a simple kiss turn into something more? We love the spontaneity of a deep kiss after a long day that turns into a wild adventure. Take that “welcome home” routine and spin it on its head. Instead of just a one-second peck, wrap your arms around your partner, press in close, and let them know how you’re feeling through your lips.

Set the mood

Light candles. Turn on some romantic music. Wear your favorite lingerie. Do all or one of these. Just changing the atmosphere in the bedroom can be the catalyst for a great time. Depending on where you are in life, keeping the passion alive can be more difficult. Check out our blog about keeping your sex life going strong after menopause for more great tips!

Make time to foreplay

Life can get in the way of a healthy sex life. It’s important to make time for sex! That doesn’t mean you have to put on your calendar: 8 PM, Get Busy Time. Let your partner know what you’re in the mood for tonight. Lock your door and focus on foreplay. Try out a sensual massage. Take it slow and explore your partner’s body. Play an intimate game that will reveal hidden desires. Take your time and enjoy this time with your partner.

Take advantage of water play

If getting busy in the bedroom isn’t working for you, try a change of scenery. Join your partner in the shower or bubble bath. Try a sexy hair flip moment (with caution). Invest in a silicone-based lubricant that’s water resistant so you can enjoy every touch.

By 2023, we hope to make a difference in the amount of people not having sex. Let’s make sure that number goes down for the first time in about a decade with proper education and awareness.
