It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Time for lights, family, gifts, feasts, and more. But, too much of a wonderful thing can become overwhelming. This year, it can seem even more stressful, with COVID-19 still in the periphery of many holiday gatherings. Many people focus on giving during this time, but really, now is the most important time of the year for SELF care. Harvard Medical School has shared some techniques to help you relax and add some “me” time to ensure the holiday’s are very “me”rry. We put together some of our best ideas on how to give yourself the best present this year: peace of mind.

Embrace Virtual Visits

One of the best things about living in the 21st century is we have so many options to get in touch with loved ones! Can you imagine relying on snail mail during a pandemic? Take advantage of technology and schedule video calls with family and friends. My friends have taken to hanging out virtually and playing games together. It won’t replace being in the same room, but we still get to laugh and trash talk each other. Our favorite is Quiplash, but Among Us has also taken the internet by storm.

Stay Sexy

Netflix has been a major savior in my home, but don’t let The Queen’s Gambit keep you from exploring in the bedroom. Now is the time to connect more with yourself or your partner! You have plenty of options when it comes to spicing things up in the bedroom, whether it’s adding a toy, putting on lacy lingerie, or literally turning up the heat with enhancement products. Plus, sex releases endorphins, which is a great way to relieve stress.

Take a Breather

Being stuck at home can take the fun out of the holidays, especially for children who won’t be able to visit family. While it’s important to be together, you also deserve a break. Reserve a few minutes out of your day to listen to a podcast, meditate, or work out! Just a short time to focus on yourself can make a big difference.

Keep Up Healthy Habits

This doesn’t just involve exercise. Sleep and diet are extremely important. Around the holidays, it can be easy to over-indulge, but you can fight that with a plan. Enjoy your favorite foods (whether it’s the sweet Christmas cookies or savory cheeseball), but also balance it with healthy eating. Also, make sure you get that extra sleep! My parents always had a rule that we couldn’t open presents until 8 AM, which meant they weren’t woken up by impatient children.

Get Creative

Release your inner artist (we all have one)! Try to write the great American novel, become the next Picasso, or just learn how to make bread. Letting the creative juices flow will get your mind off stress. There are plenty of things to learn and the internet can help you find your newest passion! You may even discover a hidden talent.

This time of the year can add more stressors that you definitely don’t need, but with just a few changes you can sleigh the holidays and let your worries fly away.
